Service Charge on Prepaid Wireless Telecommunications Service Goes into Effect July 1

Raleigh, N.C.— Beginning July 1, a 911 service charge will be imposed on each retail transaction for prepaid wireless telecommunications service occurring in North Carolina. The charge will be 60 cents for each retail transaction and will be collected by the seller. The 911 service charge is in addition to the sales tax imposed on the sale or recharge of prepaid telephone calling service.
