The NCDOR Begins Sending Letters to Potential Identity Theft Victims

Beginning in May, the NCDOR will send letters to affected taxpayers to let them know that a return has been filed using their information to possibly generate a fraudulent refund.

There is a dedicated phone number for the NCDOR's identity theft unit included in the letter, which the taxpayer should call during business hours with questions or to confirm that the return is valid. If the taxpayer did not file the return, he or she will receive instructions for filing an identity theft-related tax refund fraud case.
