Starting a Business in North Carolina

 

The Department’s online business registration allows you to electronically register for an account ID number for Income Tax Withholding, Sales and Use Tax, and Machinery, Equipment, and Manufacturing Fuel Tax instead of submitting the Form NC-BR.

The Business ServiCenter with the Department of Commerce maintains information about all the State licenses, permits, regulations, and/or other approvals required for businesses. This includes a list of tax requirements.

The New Business Packet includes information about services provided by the N.C. Department of Labor and information about workplace safety, wage and hour issues, and the required North Carolina Workplace Laws poster.

The Unclaimed Property Program, administered by the Department of State Treasurer, assists all business entities in the reporting of unclaimed property in accordance with NCGS 116B.
